Historic St. John's Church
St. John’s Church is a National Historic Landmark, which means that an event significant to our nation’s history happened here. That event is the delivery of the ‘Give me liberty, or Give me death!’ speech in 1775, by Patrick Henry, one of the premier orators in all the colonies. Those in attendance who heard Henry's argument included George Washington, a colonel in the Virginia Militia and delegate from Fairfax, Thomas Jefferson from Albemarle County, who would soon scribe the Declaration of Independence, and five other men from Virginia who would soon sign it.

St. John's Church in Richmond, Virginia, is one of America's most important historic sites, where - swayed by Henry’s powerful argument - the delegates made a decision that changed the course of history, lighting the spark of the War for Independence.

St. John's Church Foundation provides educational programming to help maintain and preserve the building, which has been an active church since it opened in 1741. Interpreters provide guided tours which tell the story of the Liberty or Death speech, and reenactments of the speech featuring nine actors dressed in colonial attire are held every Sunday in the summer and on other key dates throughout the year.

This pass is good for the Liberty or Death tour only.
